Mother was an active contributor to the family farm for over 50 years. Without her hard work and dedication, the operation would not be the success it is today. For her to revisit the barns and see the updates and modernization was rewarding. She derived a sense of satisfaction seeing that the next generations of her family are continuing in her and father’s footsteps. Especially in the capital and labour intensive business of farming we built on the success of family teamwork over time. Future generations building on the foundation of previous generations. There is pride for the current farming family members being able to share the progress and innovations they have made. Reconnecting with familiar people and surroundings was in her words “wonderful”. She continues to enjoy drinking milk and promoting eating dairy products as her small of supporting her family’s livelihood because there is a sense of grief that she is no longer able to contribute otherwise. Overall, it was a great experience to have her visit the farm and share that time with staff and fellow residents. Thank you!
I appreciate your kindness and extra effort required to make this “Wishes and Dreams’ trip possible.
Kind Regards, Gerry Leavitt – Mae’s Pulver’s Daughter
Shortly after Mae’s admission to Westgate Lodge, a Wishes and Dreams application form appeared on my desk. After I read it, I thought to myself what a great wish! I then spoke with her husband Morris and daughter Gerry to see how we could make this happen. They decided that it would be a nice idea if we could bring along a group of residents and staff to join in on this experience. We chose a group of residents that we knew would love to see the animals and talk about farming. Morris joined us for the bus ride to the farm and provided us with the directions. Once we arrived, we were welcomed by the whole family. The calves were so adorable and everyone enjoyed petting them. Some of the residents even received a sloppy kiss! We were also shown how the new milking equipment worked that they recently purchased. It was very fascinating for both residents and staff to see. Despite the smell and all the flies, it was an amazing experience for all involved! Thanks for letting us share in your wish & dream!
